Gap Runner

When the S&P opens with a 20-point-plus gap that's still holding at 10:00 AM ET, it trades in the gap's direction.

How it trades

  1. Measures the gap: the 9:30 AM ET open versus the prior day's 4:00 PM ET close.
  2. At the 10:00 AM ET bar close, if the gap is at least 20 points and price hasn't filled it, it enters in the gap's direction.
  3. Stop at the prior day's close, target equal to the gap size.
  4. Any open trade is closed at 3:45 PM ET.

Who it's for

Traders who want one decisive S&P trade on big-gap days and nothing on quiet ones.

Risk rules

  • One trade per day, only on gap days.
  • Daily loss limit, $500 by default, adjustable.
  • Risk changes with the gap: a bigger gap means a wider stop.
