Who it's for

Traders who want a gold position in the quiet Asia hours with one clean trade a night.

§ 01 How it trades

The rules, in order

  1. Uses the 200-period EMA to decide the trend.
  2. Long when price is above the EMA and 2-period RSI drops below 5. Short when price is below the EMA and RSI rises above 95.
  3. Stop at 3 times the average true range, target at 2 times it.
  4. Last entry at 1:30 AM ET. Any open trade is closed at 2:00 AM ET.

§ 02 Market context

Why a short RSI on gold in the Asia hours

The 200-period EMA sets the side: above it, Gold Dipper only looks for longs; below it, only shorts. Inside that trend it waits for an extreme reading on the 2-period RSI, below 5 for a dip or above 95 for a pop, which marks a sharp, short move against the trend.

Gold is often quieter in the Asia hours than in London or New York. The idea is to buy those short dips in an uptrend (or sell pops in a downtrend) while it is quiet, and be flat by 2:00 AM ET, before London trading begins.

When this setup struggles

  • A dip that is really the start of a trend change. The EMA filter is slow to flip.
  • A sudden overnight move on news, when a 3× ATR stop can be hit quickly.
  • Not enough history loaded. It needs 200 bars before it can trade.

§ 03 Risk and settings

Risk rules

  • At most one trade per day, one position at a time.
  • The stop is wider than the target, so a few losses can outweigh many small gains. Size accordingly.
  • No daily loss limit.
  • Needs 200 bars of history loaded before it can trade.

Before you turn it on

  • Load it on a 5-minute MGC or GC chart with at least 200 bars of history.
  • It takes at most one trade a day, last entry 1:30 AM ET, flat by 2:00 AM ET.
  • There is no daily loss limit, so size for the 3× ATR stop.

Settings like contracts are adjustable. This bot has no built-in daily loss limit.

§ 04 Questions

Gold Dipper: common questions

What does the 200 EMA do in Gold Dipper?

It decides the only direction the bot will trade: long above it, short below it.

Why is the stop bigger than the target?

The stop is 3 times the average true range and the target is 2 times it. The stop is wider than the target, so a few losses can outweigh many small gains. Size accordingly.

How many trades can it take?

At most one a day, with one position at a time.
