Opening Shot: one timed entry for NinjaTrader
A timed single-entry bot. At the exact second you set, it takes one trade in the direction you pick, with a dollar target and stop.
In NinjaTrader as ShawnsUSOpenV2
Illustration of the entry rules, not a real or simulated trade and not a result. Hypothetical or simulated performance results have certain limitations (CFTC Rule 4.41). Read the full notice.
Read this first. High risk by design: one full-size entry at one exact second, and many attempts fail. It does not pick direction for you. Only trade money you can afford to lose.
Who it's for
Traders who already have a directional read on the New York open and want one entry, with size, target and stop, executed at an exact second.
§ 01 How it trades
The rules, in order
- You pick long or short, the contract size and the entry time (default 9:31:00 AM).
- At that second it sends one market order. It never picks direction on its own.
- Target and stop are set in dollars for the whole position (defaults $200 and $100) and converted to ticks for any contract.
- One trade per day. It won't enter if a position is already open.
§ 02 Market context
What it actually automates
Opening Shot doesn't read the chart. You decide the direction before the session, and the bot handles the mechanics: one market order at the second you set, a bracket built from dollar amounts, and nothing else for the rest of the day.
Because the target and stop are set in dollars for the whole position, the bot converts them to ticks for whatever contract you load it on. $200 is a very different distance on MNQ than on CL, so check the tick distance it produces on your contract before you enable it.
When this setup struggles
- Your directional read is wrong. The bot cannot tell you, and it will take the trade anyway.
- The open is fast. A market order at 9:31:00 can fill away from the last price you saw.
- The stop is switched off. Then the trade has no stop until NinjaTrader's end-of-session exit.
§ 03 Risk and settings
Risk rules
- One trade per day.
- Stop loss is on by default and can be turned off. With it off, the trade has no stop.
- No time exit: the trade runs until target, stop or NinjaTrader's end-of-session exit.
- The entry time follows NinjaTrader's time-zone setting. Set NinjaTrader to Eastern time for a 9:31 AM ET entry.
Before you turn it on
- Set NinjaTrader's time zone to Eastern if you want the 9:31:00 AM ET default to mean 9:31 in New York.
- Pick long or short, contract size, entry time, and the dollar target and stop each day you run it.
- Load it on any chart of the contract you want to trade. It runs on a clock, not on bars.
- Leave the stop on unless you have a written reason not to.
Settings like contracts, entry time, stop and target are adjustable. This bot has no built-in daily loss limit.
§ 04 Questions
Opening Shot: common questions
Does Opening Shot decide whether to buy or sell?
No. You pick long or short. It never chooses direction on its own.
What happens if a position is already open at the entry time?
It won't enter. It takes at most one trade a day and skips the day if a position is already open.
Does it close the trade at a set time?
No. There is no time exit. The trade runs until the target, the stop or NinjaTrader's end-of-session exit.
How risky is Opening Shot?
High risk by design. It puts the full size on in one order at one second, and many attempts fail. Only trade money you can afford to lose.
