Risk rules

The risk rules built into every FuturesBotLab bot

Every FuturesBotLab bot ships with its risk rules written into the code. Here is the full picture across all 13: stops, targets, daily loss limits, time exits and the limits we tell you about up front.

The risk rules built into every FuturesBotLab bot: cover illustration

Most bot sellers talk about entries. We'd rather show you the exits. Every FuturesBotLab bot is a NinjaScript strategy with its risk rules written into the code, and every spec sheet lists them. This page puts all 13 side by side.

One position at a time, every bot

No bot ever stacks positions. Each one holds a single position at a time, and seven of them take at most one trade a day: Opening Shot, Gold Dipper, Dawn Range, Bullion Break, Gold Trap, Dow Rubber Band and Gap Runner.

From each bot's code. R = the trade's initial risk; ATR = average true range; σ = standard deviation of the VWAP band.

The daily loss limit

Seven bots carry an adjustable daily loss limit, set to $500 by default: Bullion Break, Gold Trap, Gold Reload, Nasdaq Reload, Nasdaq Blitz, Dow Rubber Band and Gap Runner. Once the day's realized loss reaches the limit, the bot stops trading for the day. The other six (Opening Shot, Night Owl, Gold Dipper, Dawn Range, Coil Breaker and Oil Rider) don't have one, and their pages say so.

Time exits

Twelve of the 13 bots close any open trade by 3:55 PM ET, so nothing is carried past the New York session by design. Gap Runner exits earlier, by 3:45 PM ET, and Gold Dipper is flat by 2:00 AM ET. Opening Shot is the exception: it has no time exit, only its target, its stop or NinjaTrader's end-of-session exit.

What we tell you up front

  • Coil Breaker has no stop loss. A trade exits only at its 60-point target or at 3:55 PM ET, so a single trade can lose more than a typical daily loss limit.
  • Opening Shot is high risk by design. One full-size entry at one exact second, in the direction you choose. Many attempts fail, and its stop can be switched off.
  • No news filter. None of the bots has a news filter or a max-trades-per-day setting. Oil Rider trades through the weekly EIA crude oil report unless you pause it.
  • Instrument locks. Night Owl and Coil Breaker run on MES only, and Oil Rider on MCL only. The code refuses other instruments.

Read the spec sheet first

Each bot's page shows its window, markets, stop, target and limits, plus a labelled illustration of its entry rules. Futures trading involves substantial risk of loss, and no rule set removes it. Compare all 13 bots.
